Trump Should Tell Family He’s ‘Looking at Jail Time,’ Ex-Obama Official Says

President Trump should be informing his family he’s “looking at jail time” in the wake of Monday’s raid by dozens of FBI agents in his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida, according to Neal Katyal.

Katyal served as the US Solicitor General in the Obama administration.

Secret Service Agents Helped FBI in Search

More than 30 FBI agents swarmed Trump’s mansion in Palm Springs, Florida, on Monday.

They were searching through his property, including his safe, for classified documents that he may have taken with him illegally after leaving the White House in January 2021.

News about the raid didn’t reach the media until Monday evening when President Trump also confirmed it happened. Trump called it a “dark day” for the United States, while his lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, described it as “totally unjustified.

Neither the Justice Department nor the FBI said anything about the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago. Media reports citing government sources claim the raid was solely about possibly missing classified papers from the White House.

Subsequently, National Archive officials said some of the papers in question were classified and more records are being requested from the ex-president’s legal team.

At the time, Trump declared the Democrat Party is searching for its “next scam” against him and the National Archive hadn’t actually found anything.

According to reports, no one in the Trump family was notified about the FBI raid. The Secret Service agents at Mar-a-Lago were reportedly told an hour in advance.

The search warrant was served at 10 am EST. The Secret Service then helped the FBI with the search. There are also claims FBI operatives left Trump’s home carrying “several boxes.”

FBI Persuaded a Judge to Give Them the Warrant

Trump is “probably” being targeted by a criminal investigation, judging from the raid of his mansion, according to ex-US Solicitor General, Neal Katyal, as cited by MSNBC and The Daily Mail.

Katyal declared he would tell Trump to “prepare for jail time” if he were his lawyer. The former Solicitor General, who is a law professor at Georgetown University, says he is an “extremist centrist.”

He argued the FBI raid makes it highly likely Trump is being targeted by the Department of Justice in a criminal investigation.

Katyal noted all the legal preconditions the FBI would have to meet in order to receive a warrant for the raid of Mar-a-Lago.

He stressed feds “convinced a federal judge” to allow it based on “probable cause” that Trump may have committed a crime.

In his words, the judge got persuaded that Trump was holding White House documents in his house that could be related to the crime in question. Because of that, an “ordinary request,” such as a subpoena, would have seemed insufficient.

Katyal went further by thanking God he isn’t Trump’s lawyer at the moment, but he still advised POTUS 45 to tell his family he is “expecting jail time” and they ought to be “planning accordingly.”

In an interview for the Daily Mail, ex-federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani said Trump may be found guilty of mishandling government documents. This would disqualify him from holding public office and running in the 2024 presidential election.
