Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ popularity is taking off. Right now, DeSantis is in the middle of seeking reelection in a race that he appears all but destined to win. The polls, voter registration numbers, and momentum in Florida appear to all be on his side.
Furthermore, the governor of Florida has been widely floated as a possible presidential candidate in the 2024 race. For months, a Ready For Ron PAC has formed with the intention of raising resources and support for DeSantis to announce a presidential run.
However, within the past several months, there have been reported rumors about former President Trump being angry, jealous of, and threatened by DeSantis’ political rise. Some have even said that DeSantis is like a better, younger version of Trump without the drawbacks.
Now, new accounts allege that Trump privately trashed the Florida governor while speaking with a reporter of the New York Times, per Washington Examiner.
The Latest Alleged Comments From Trump
Maggie Haberman, a reporter of the New York Times, claims Trump blasted DeSantis as being overweight, “whiny,” and even “phony.” The reporter likewise claims the former president believes he “made” DeSantis by endorsing him during his 2018 run for Florida governor.
This news comes as data shows DeSantis has fundraised more than Trump or Biden since January 2021. Meanwhile, polling shows that in Florida, DeSantis leads the ex-president among Republican voters in a hypothetical primary election.

Prior reports that alleged a feud between DeSantis and Trump have been largely denied by both parties. Thus far, however, neither Republican has publicly responded to the claims made by Haberman of the New York Times.
Differences Within the Republican Party
There are certainly some Republicans who support Trump making a third run for the Oval Office. Many of these folks claim that DeSantis should run for president in 2028 after Trump finishes another term (assuming that he would win the 2024 general election).
However, other Republicans have expressed different views. There are some GOP members who believe Trump is too polarizing and controversial to win the White House again.

These folks have warned that putting forward Trump as the GOP nominee in 2024 would lead to a loss for the Republican Party, thereby sticking America with four more years of Biden or whichever Democrat runs in his place.
At this rate, Trump is widely viewed as preparing to make another run for president. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether or not DeSantis will throw his hat in the ring for 2024.
