Top GOP Senator Warns Against Republicans Infighting Ahead of 2022

In many ways, 2022 will be a make-or-break year for the Republican Party. The GOP has the chance to regain power in the very narrow majorities that Democrats currently enjoy in the House and the Senate.

The congressional power next year will define the second half of the Biden presidency. If Republicans regain the House, the Senate, or both of these chambers, the direction of this nation will change. Democrats will not have full control to pass whatever policies they want, despite the harm. Should Republicans win back either majority, balance will also be restored in the federal government.

However, there are some things Republicans need to do between now and 2022 in order to regain congressional power. GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham, earlier this week, explained the importance of making certain changes, Newsmax reports.

An Important Message for the Republican Party

On Tuesday, Sen. Graham appeared on Fox News to discuss some realities of the Republican Party and what it will take to win 2022 midterm elections. The Republican senator expressed that despite former President Trump being a “handful,” he is also the GOP’s ” most dominant figure.”

Graham hence stated that without the support of Trump, Republicans will have zero shot of winning back the Senate majority next year. The Republican senator’s remarks arrive after blistery statements between Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and the 45th president.

On Fox News, Graham explained that due to McConnell and Trump being “at each other’s throat,” his concerns about 2022 are greater than ever. The South Carolina Republican then called for both parties to “knock it off” and stop contributing to division with the GOP.

A Different Form of GOP Leadership

On Saturday, McConnell voted to acquit Trump before blasting him on the Senate floor as demonstrably responsible for the January 6 riots. The Senate Minority Leader didn’t stop there, though; he also made a point of suggesting that Trump could and should face criminal charges for the riots, outside of Congress.

Sen. Graham, however, is urging Republicans to mirror the leadership and conduct of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy, since the riots, has been walking the fine line of not alienating former President Trump or the GOP establishment. Likewise, McCarthy and Trump have agreed to work together to help Republicans re-win the House of Representatives.
