Recent testimony from John Rood, the undersecretary of the Defense of Policy, affirms that three additional and sizeable migrant caravans are making their way to the United States Southern border; Townhall reports.
Reviewing Rood’s Testimony
On Tuesday, Rood testified before the House Armed Services Committee. His statements maintained that certain caravans who are current trekking to the United States are comprised of 12,000 migrants; Rood also affirmed that some caravans have more than 12,000 migrants, based upon reports.
An excerpt from his testimony reads as follows:
“Current information shows that a caravan of over 12,000 people — there’s three that we are tracking, that the DHS is tracking en route, one that is over 12,000 by the latest estimate. […] The difference is really the caravans and really the nature of the asylum seekers.”
Rood furthermore noted the massive urges in illegal immigration which has taken place within a period of months:
“Just in the last three months alone, CBP reports apprehending 145,000 illegal immigrants.”
However, if you let the Democrats tell it, there are no issues at the Southern border.
Securing Our Borders
In light of the mounting caravans and illegal immigration, securing this nation’s Southern border is more imperative than ever. Rood’s testimony speaks for itself; the caravans who are approaching our borders are comprised of more and more individuals. It is not realistic or feasible to allow each and every one of these people into the country. There are laws and systems in place for a reason. Many of the migrants who have come as members of caravans have also been arrested for attempting to scale the border or otherwise enter the country illegally.
Contrary to the Democrats’ narrative, border security is not evil; neither is building a wall at the Southern border. One of the most American things we can do as a nation is to make sure that we have the physical barriers in place to halt illegal immigration. The Southern border will continue to serve as a magnet for those who wish to enter the country illegally, so long as proper, commonsense reform is lacking.
