As Democrats move forward with their push for a background check bill, there are certain Americans who have concerns, reports The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Reviewing the Background Check Bill
In a nutshell, the Democrats’ background check bill pushes for “universal” check and enforcement via the Department of Justice. Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic House Caucus chairman, provided some statements about the legislation which his party is pushing for:
“The Department of Justice and the FBI will have primary responsibility for enforcing the requirements that we hope will be enacted into law consistent with the values of the overwhelming majority of the American people. This is a discussion that we should be having in the United States Congress as it relates to the gun violence epidemic in the United States of America, particularly on the eve of the tragedy that took place in Parkland.”
However, Republicans and other supporters of Second Amendment rights have their own concerns about the bill. One point which has come up has to do with the bill being a precursor to a federal firearm registry. Interestingly enough, however, Democrats have not shut the door on this possibility.
Due to the proven ineffectiveness of gun control, there are many people who have concerns that legislation of this nature is one of many steps to chip away at Second Amendment right.
