Pelosi and AOC Set to Convene Amidst Feud

House caucus members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley have found themselves in the middle of a feud with Speaker Nancy Pelosi over the past few weeks. In an apparent attempt to bury the hatchet, Ocasio-Cortez and Pelosi are set to have a meeting in the nearby future in order to discuss the state of their professional relationship, according to The Daily Caller News Foundation. This comes after both parties have exchanged public jabs at one another.

The spat between AOC and the House Speaker is indicative of greater dynamics within the Democrat Party. Ocasio-Cortez is very representative of the progressive wing, whereas Pelosi is looking more and more moderate, in comparison to the progressives who she has feuded with. Despite both wings’ commonality as Democrats, progressives and moderates harbor very different ideas on appropriate policies. This has become more and more apparent with the election of freshmen House Democrats.

Reviewing the Upcoming Meeting Between Pelosi and AOC

In essence, the aforementioned meeting will focus on these two politicians improving the quality of their professional relationship. Ocasio-Cortez pushed for the meeting earlier this week; her chief-of-staff and Pelosi’s chief-of-staff have already met with one another in order to discuss the specific details and how to get the meeting set up.

The House Speaker has been openly critical of the manner in which Ocasio-Cortez and her “squad” conduct themselves, especially on social media. Earlier this month, Pelosi dismissed the four congresswomen and stated that they lacked a real following outside of Twitter and “their public whatever.” Furthermore, the representatives decision to vote against a spending appropriations bill did not sit well with Pelosi either. AOC would later push back, accusing the Speaker of going after “women of color,” something which caused other House caucus members to rush to Pelosi’s defense.

Political Theatre and Failure to Govern

The public feud going on being Ocasio-Cortez and Pelosi is very interesting for multiple reasons. It’s also very indicative of the state of today’s Democrat Party. All this infighting and going back-and-forth makes fascinating headlines, but it’s not connotative of the proper behavior for people who are supposed to be serving in the United States government. These type of issues are ultimately disappointing for Americans who expected leadership in Congress.

The firestorm which is currently happening is the inevitable outcome of electing extremists into government. The Democrat Party has become the party of extremists who browbeats anyone with the audacity to disagree with them. As unfortunate as this may be, it’s very representative of the current political climate which we are all living in today.
