Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is infamous for making absolutely obscene statements. This is a woman who previously proclaimed that Americans are at fault for the crisis which is happening in Venezuela. Let’s also not forget about the time where she dismissed the tragedy of 9/11 as “some people did something.” Like many other freshmen congressional Democrats, Omar has established a pattern of radicalism, both in rhetoric and the policies which she supports.
Omar’s latest outrageous declaration came on Wednesday. The congresswoman openly advocated for doing away with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) altogether, as documented by Fox News. Obviously, taking such steps would set off a chain reaction of horrible events, especially at the Southern border. Omar’s decision to come out and call for the end of an agency which is so imperative to America is utter proof of her unfitness to serve in office.
A Closer Look at Omar’s Call to Abolish CBP
During a sit-down with BET Black Coffee, Omar expressed her concerns about the manners in which CBP has dealt with illegal immigrants in various detention centers. The congresswoman also insinuated that CBP is a racist agency which has a vendetta against brown and black people. This is a narrative which is consistent amongst progressives; somehow, in their minds, the enforcement of legal immigration is inherently racist.
In Omar’s own words:
“We know that they have spoken in the most vile ways about immigrants. We know that they have certain views of what brown and black people deserve. We should be having a conversation about eliminating their existence [and] reforming the agencies that deal with the most vulnerable, who are children and women.”
False Claims about Legal Immigration and Racism
For far too long, progressives have doctored a false equivalency between racism and the enforcement of legal immigration. The reality is this: immigration is a privilege, not a right. Nobody reserves the power to flagrantly breach the immigration laws of this nation without facing consequences. This has nothing to do with the race of migrants and everything to do with law and order.
However, more and more 2020 Democrat candidates have come out in favor of government-sanctioned illegal immigration in recent weeks. Therefore, as tragic as this may be, Americans should prepare for additional inane statements which mirror those of Ilhan Omar’s.
