Newsom Vows Not to Primary Joe Biden

As of late, growing conversations have come up about what viable chances Joe Biden has in the 2024 presidential election.

Thus far, it remains to be seen whether or not Biden runs for another stint in office. He’s repeatedly hinted at it; yet, Biden’s also walked this back by saying the time to make a decision hasn’t yet come.

On the left, there’s also been talk about Democrats hitting Biden with a primary challenge to force him out. One of the prospective candidates in this regard has been none other than California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Though over the weekend, Newsom expressly stated he has no intention of running for president in 2024, per Newsmax.

Reviewing Newsom’s Vow to Biden

According to the California governor’s own account, he told the entire Biden administration that he won’t be launching a 2024 presidential campaign.

In talks with the media, Newsom also revealed that he’s in favor of the current president seeking reelection and believes he could beat Trump once more in a general election.

The California governor’s endorsement of Biden’s reelection comes as new polling shows that 65% of Americans hold a different view. This would suggest that Newsom and other Democrats to back Biden for a second term are out of touch with the electorate.

Newsom has previously declared he wouldn’t be running for president in 2024. However, his latest statements are perhaps the strongest that indicate he’ll be sitting out the next White House race.

More to the Story?

Despite the California governor’s emphatic claims that he won’t be running for president in 2024, some social media users aren’t convinced.

Word of Newsom possibly running for president came earlier this year after he started targeting Florida and Texas Govs. Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott. Coincidentally, DeSantis has likewise been viewed as a likely presidential candidate.

Back in July, Newsom went so far as to run attack ads against DeSantis in Florida. This led to speculations that Newsom was looking to improve his political profile on a nationwide scale, thereby setting himself up for the 2024 election.

At one point, Newsom even pressed DeSantis to join him for a formal debate. DeSantis, however, did not take the California governor up on his offer.

Right now, it remains to be seen who runs in 2024 and who doesn’t. However, once 2023 arrives, Americans can expect to see officials on both sides of the aisle declare their candidacies in the 2024 GOP primaries.

What do you make of California Gov. Gavin Newsom once again promising that he’s not going to run for president in the 2024 election? Do you believe that Newsom is going to hold true to his word?
