Never Trumpers Caught Between Rock and Hard Place

As the name suggests, Never Trumpers are a minority group within the Republican Party that opposes President Trump. Despite the president’s 90%+ approval rating with the GOP, a small amount of conservatives still view him unfavorably and support his removal from office. Trump has been understandably critical of Never Trump Republicans; this faction of conservatives has organized and, in many ways, joined forces with the left.

New developments from Washington Examiner report that the 2020 presidential election isn’t going in the desired favor of Never Trumpers. This group of Republicans doesn’t want to vote for the current president; yet they’re also horrified at the thought of an extreme socialist like Bernie Sanders winning the Democrat Party’s nomination.

Conservatives who dislike Trump are, therefore, hoping that Democrats nominate a centrist, moderate candidate to face the president in a general election.

The Problem for Never Trumpers

Never Trumpers remain deeply concerned about the possibility of Sanders winning the Democrat Party’s nomination. Not only does this group of Republicans oppose Sanders’ policies, but they furthermore believe that Sanders would fail to rally the necessary support in a general election. This, of course, would lead to another four years of the current president, a prospect that Trump-hating Republicans aren’t thrilled with at all.

Instead, Never Trumpers are holding out hope of the DNC nominating Joe Biden. Unlike Sanders, conservatives in this boat believe that Biden is moderate enough to win enough support in a general election. Moreover, Biden’s inclination towards quasi-centrist policies is more comforting to Never Trumpers than the extreme far-left Sanders who advocates for supposedly “bold” change.

In the event that Biden wins the Democrat Party’s nomination, Never Trump Republicans have stated that they’ll campaign for him.

A No-Win Scenario

If Never Trumpers truly believe the Democrat Party is going to move in the direction of centrism and moderatism, they’re kidding themselves. The fact of the matter is that the left-wing becomes more and more extreme with each passing second. One must only look at their policies to get an idea of just how unhinged Democrats have become.

Even if Biden winds up winning the nomination, his policies are still out there albeit, not “as” out there as Sanders’. The reality is that neither Biden or Sanders are allies to conservatives or conservative causes.

President Trump is admired, beloved by the vast majority of the Republican Party, and pretty much set to secure his second term in office; therefore, Never Trumpers are put in a tight spot where they lose, regardless of which clown Democrats choose to nominate.
