The fees associated with the travels of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have gained some attention following President Trump’s disallowance of her military aircraft use. The Daily Caller News Foundation reports that Pelosi has a habit of wracking up hefty charges on her trips around the world.
A Closer Look at the Expenses Behind Pelosi’s Travels
Between July 30, 2015 to August 6, 2015, Pelosi’s travels to Italy and Ukraine amounted to a grand total of $184,587.81 for the Air Force. This is according to documentation from Judicial Watch’s 2015 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) suit. Pelosi has been accompanied by various relatives and legislators on her trips. The Democratic leader has also dined out at fancy restaurants during her travels where meals often amounted to nearly $200.00.
The Air Force is more than aware of the hefty fees they’re incurring from Pelosi’s trips. Apparently, they’re not too pleased about it, according to an email excerpt from an anonymous member of the Air Force.
“You’re going lo love this …. CODEL Pelosi is requesting the crew they had on this earlier attached trip. Apparently they were very pleased with their service. I already told the escort chances were slim.”
Controversy Regarding Pelosi’s Travels
Raised eyeballs over Pelosi’s trips are not at all new. For one decade now, the conservative Judicial Watch has maintained that Pelosi frequently “abuses” her traveling privileges.
Two years ago, the conservative watchdog group issued the following statement about the expenses of Pelosi’s trips:
“Beginning in 2009, after the media failed to follow up on concerns raised about Nancy Pelosi’s use of luxury Air Force jets to travel between her congressional district and DC, Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information act requests exposed her abuse of this travel perk. Judicial Watch uncovered that Pelosi’s military travel cost the United States Air Force $2,100,744.59 over one two-year period — $101,429.14 of which was for in-flight expenses, including food and alcohol.”
