Not too long ago, model Anastasia Vashukevich (also known as Nastya Rybka) made international news for alleging that she had proof of ties between President Donald Trump and the Russian government. However, in the face of various legal woes, the model is now retracting her previous allegations, according to The Daily Caller News Foundation.
A Closer Look at the Retracted Allegations
Anyone who has observed the general political climate knows that there are many claims and conspiracy theories surrounding allegations that President Trump has connections to the Russian government. Apparently, Vashukevich knew this and decided to concoct a story in order to appeal for a reprieve and escape. Prior to the model’s story, she was facing a considerable amount of jail time for solicitation and other sex-related crimes.
In essence, Vashukevich’s situation prompted her to issue a false statement about President Trump and his alleged connections to the Russian government. The model is not remorseful of her statements either; in fact, she expressed her belief that the false account saved her life during an interview with CNN:
“I think it saved my life, how can I regret it? If journalists had not come at that time and that story had not come to the newspapers, maybe I would die [be dead by] now.”
Anastasia Vashukevich reportedly had concerns about her life and safety behind bars.
The Moral of the Story
The moral of the story is that it’s important to vet sources prior to believing them. People can say all kinds of things or make various outlandish accusations; this does not mean that the accusations are true or fact-based. Of course, that isn’t relevant to people who are more concerned about sticking it to Trump as opposed to operating based upon logic and reason.
