Leader McCarthy Defends Facebook CEO's Commitment to Free Expression

We’ve reached a point in America where speech is now under ongoing attack from progressives and the Democrat Party. See, so many folks on the left claim to be all for love and tolerance, but that’s only applicable when they agree with someone. The minute that a person fails to toe the leftist line and fall in line with what progressive want, all hell breaks loose.

In light of the ongoing 2020 presidential election, left-wingers have been calling for the censorship of speech, particularly on the internet and on social media platforms. See, Democrats know that social media is immensely powerful and a place where people can gather and make a real difference. When it comes to conservatives, Trump supporters, and other folks who lean right-of-center, the left doesn’t want these groups to organize and have a say in how the nation is run.

As a result, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has faced pressure to prohibit speech on the platform which others have deemed as undesirable. Still, despite this pressure, Zuckerberg maintains that the preservation of free speech is imperative. This is something which House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy praised Zuckerberg for within a piece for The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Reviewing McCarthy’s Statements on Zuckerberg and Free Speech

Throughout the House Minority Leader’s written statements, he noted the speech which Zuckerberg gave regarding free expression earlier this month. McCarthy also touched upon the frosty response which left-wingers delivered, upon hearing that people of all political views should have the right to orally express themselves. One of the most central points of all which the House Minority Leader touched upon was the danger of banning speech because the mob calls for it.

In McCarthy’s own words:

“The idea of banning speech someone might not like is nonsense. But unfortunately, that mindset is creeping into places like college campuses and presidential campaigns. For his part, Zuckerberg appears to understand this, most notably when he said, “More people across the spectrum believe that achieving the political outcomes they think matter is more important than every person having a voice.” I agree that this is a dangerous trend.”

Finally, Leader McCarthy concluded his piece by reminding readers of the value of free speech and the difference in quality of life for those in other nations who are forced to go without it.

Upholding the Bill of Rights

As the Democrat Party continues to wage war against the Bill of Rights, such as the First and Second Amendments, upholding these rights has never been more imperative. Challenging the thoughts and logic of speech is fine; censoring it is not. It’s important to note that censorship is so favored by the Democrat Party because they struggle with intelligently and factually challenging right-wing outlooks and values.

The reality is that no one is fit to be an impartial judge of whether or not certain words are fair, considerate, or worthy of being uttered. The censorship of speech is inherently fascist and it directly conflicts with who we are as Americans. As the CEO of a huge social media platform, it’s good to see that Zuckerberg is committed to upholding the sanctity of free expression.
