In a striking development, a bus carrying undocumented immigrants made its way to the Washington, D.C., residence of Vice President Kamala Harris.
This was following the discontinuation of Title 42, which previously served as a barrier for thousands of migrants attempting to enter the U.S. from the southern border.
D.C. Residents Foot $8 Million Bill for Migrant Assistance
Last Friday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott orchestrated the transportation of over 30 undocumented immigrants — comprising men, women, and children, predominantly from Venezuela — to the U.S. Naval Observatory.
This is the official residence of the vice president. The group initially embarked on their journey from Texas.
This morning, a group of about 30 migrants – men, women and children – arrived outside the Vice President’s residence here in Washington DC on a bus sent from Texas.

As reported by NBC News, this bus was the second of its kind to arrive in less than a day. The initial bus had disembarked at least 40 undocumented immigrants.
Just recently, the District’s Department of Human Services announced that Washington D.C.’s provisional accommodation program had reached its maximum limit.
Approximately 1,249 migrants, constituting around 370 families, have been accommodated across three local hotels within the city.
In a span of merely four months, the residents of D.C. had to foot a staggering bill of $8 million. This cost was primarily incurred to facilitate housing, food, and other essential care for the migrants and individuals crossing the border who had arrived in the city.
Title 42 Policy Expires, Border Situation Expected to be Chaotic
In the final hours preceding the expiration of the Trump-era Title 42 immigration policy, Biden acknowledged the situation at the southern border would likely be “chaotic for a while.”

With the anticipated record surge in illegal migrant arrivals, vetted border crossers who cannot be processed due to overwhelmed border authorities will be permitted entry into the U.S.
Some of these individuals have already been given immigration court dates that are scheduled for as far as a decade into the future.
It is projected that the U.S.-Mexico border could see upwards of 400,000 illegal migrants arriving at the border on a monthly basis.
It’s worth noting a considerable number of these border crossers are either in search of employment or fleeing from previous criminal activities, neither of which constitute a legitimate basis for seeking asylum in the U.S.
