As radicalism continues to eat the far-left Democrats alive, they are now at odds with the more moderate members within the House of Representatives, as documented by Townhall.
What is Happening Behind Closed Doors?
In a nutshell, House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has initiated talk about having her moderate colleagues “unseated” in the upcoming 2020 election. The newly elected congresswoman is also highly displeased about members of the House who have chosen to side with Republicans on certain initiatives. This newfound discord comes shortly after House Democrats’ gun control bill was intercepted by GOP House members.
Likewise, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has also gone after the members of her chamber, yet she’s taken a slightly different approach. On Thursday, Pelosi claimed that more moderate Democrats needed to be a part of “the team,” which is essentially code for “get on board with the radical, leftist agenda.”
However, moderates and Democrats who are not far left aren’t very pleased about the animosity being directed at them from Ocasio-Cortez and Pelosi. As a matter of fact, the milder members of the party reminded the aforementioned House representatives that moderates are the ones who have successfully attracted bipartisan and even right-leaning support.
What to Expect Going Forward
The implosion of the Democratic Party is inevitable if they persist on their current trajectory. Somewhere along the line, liberals convinced themselves that going as far left as possible is the winning, political strategy. This consensus is incorrect.
The fact that moderates and more centrist leftists are having issues with the representatives of the Democrat Party ought to speak volumes. However, based on the reactions from House Speaker Pelosi and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, the left still has a long way to go before realizing that extremism will not take them to victory. Perhaps another Trump presidential win will open their eyes in 2020…or not.
