Former President Carter Receiving End of Life Hospice Care

The Carter Center announced on Saturday that former President Jimmy Carter would start getting hospice care at his residence in Georgia.

Carter Receiving End of Life Care

Former President Jimmy Carter made the decision to spend the remainder of his life at home with his loved ones and receive hospice care, rather than further medical treatment.

This follows a string of brief hospitalizations he had to endure. According to the announcement, his relatives and medical staff are behind him.

The ex-president’s grandson, Jason Carter, a former Democratic state legislator from Georgia, said when he saw his grandfather on Friday, he saw the home was full of love and acceptance of what was to come.

After the death of George H.W. Bush in late 2018 at the age of 94, Jimmy Carter, who reached 98 in 2022, surpassed George H.W. Bush as the longest-sitting US president in recent history.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused the country’s 39th president to keep a low media persona in recent times, but he hasn’t stopped speaking out against threats to democratic institutions around the world, a lifelong concern of his.

Carter overcame brain cancer in 2015, but in 2019, he experienced a number of health concerns, leading to surgeries to alleviate the pressure on his skull.

He had been leading Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church in his birthplace of Plains, Georgia, for years, but health issues caused him to stop.

Before entering politics, Carter, who is a Democrat, was a farmer who grew peanuts and enlisted as a lieutenant in the US Navy. He then completed one term as Georgia’s governor and as president of the USA from 1977 to 1981.

For promoting human rights, the previous president is well regarded.

His role in mediating the signing of the Camp David Accords in 1978 between Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat plays a vital role in his reputation.

Carter and his spouse, Rosalynn, established The Carter Center in the following years of his administration in an effort to advance health systems and peace. Over the years, the institution has sought to promote democracy by keeping track of elections held abroad and lowering sickness rates in poor nations.

Carter has worked with Habitat for Humanity in a volunteering role for a very long time. For his initiatives to promote peace all around the world, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Carter Firm is Friends With Biden

Carter’s lifelong supporter and kindred Democratic President Joe Biden has indeed been informed of his failing health and desire to obtain hospice care, a source told CNN.

The Carter clan and the close-knit group of advisors remain in frequent communication with Biden. In 2021, on the 100th day of Biden’s administration, the Bidens visited the Carters in Georgia.

The two families celebrated together.
