DC Police Reform So Abysmal Dems Join GOP to Kill It

The woke, radical left police reform law for the District of Columbia is so terrible that 14 Democrats in the House of Representatives joined the Republican Party in order to kill it.

This is the third time a new DC police bill has been rejected by Congress this year.

Staggering Loss of Police Officers

Last week, the US House of Representatives voted 229 to 189 to pass a resolution that disapproved of the newly proposed police reform law for Washington, DC. As per the Constitution, District of Columbia legislation is subjected to approval by the US Congress.

According to the Republican Party, the bill, which was inspired by the 2020 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, paves the way for harassing and putting police officers in physical danger, Fox News reported.

The measures stipulated in the law on “comprehensive policing and justice reform” prohibited police chokeholds, ordered the release of bodycam videos after violent cases, and provided for publishing officers’ disciplinary records.

To top it all off, the DC bill creates hurdles for police to access tear gas and riot gear, thus placing them in “dangerous positions.”

During the floor debate for the DC police bill, Rep. James Comer, the House Oversight Committee chairman, pointed out almost 1,200 police officers quit the Washington, DC police since 2020.

This means the department has lost one-third of its force.

Racism Accusations

Another Republican, Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia, emphasized in the nation’s capital, police were quitting “faster than” they could be “replaced,” hence bringing the force to its lowest numbers in 50 years.

Clyde was the sponsor of the Republican resolution that killed the draft DC police law.

Some GOP House members emphasized the fact that the DC Council adopted the bill, despite the opposition of Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser, who didn’t sign it.

DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes, a Democrat, however, went so as far as to accuse the GOP of racism, arguing Republicans seem to think “black and brown” people of the nation’s capital were “unworthy of governing themselves.”
