The Washington Post is currently facing a lawsuit from Covington Catholic High School student Nicholas Sandmann. During last month’s March For Life rally, Sandmann became wrapped up in a massive media scandal after he was seen smirking at a Native American protester.

The lawsuit is for $250 million dollars in damages. According to attorneys Todd McMurty and Lin Wood, Sandmann’s suit maintains that the Washington Post “wrongfully targeted and bullied” Sandmann due to his status as a Catholic, white male and a supporter of President Trump. The targeting and bullying are furthermore noted as a “modern-day form of McCarthyism” and neglect of “basic journalistic standards.”
Sandmann’s lawyers filed the suit in the Kentucky U.S. District Court.
Response from the Washington Post
Of course, the Washington Post did not take long in responding to Sandmann’s suit. According to their Vice President for Communications, they are “reviewing a copy of the lawsuit.” The Washington Post moreover articulated their plan to issue a proper defense.
According to Sandmann’s attorney, there are additional lawsuits to come.
Hopefully, this fiasco will serve as a warning to any other mainstream media outlets who are thinking of going after Americans because of their political leanings. It will certainly be interesting to see how this all plays out.
