Leo Terrell, a Los Angeles-based civil rights attorney, criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for playing the “race card” amid moving forward with charges against Daniel Penny.
The Backstory
Penny is a Marine Corps veteran who restrained a violent vagrant in a chokehold. The 24-year-old Marine Corps veteran was charged with second-degree manslaughter on May 11 with regard to the death of 30-year-old Jordan Neely.
He died as a result of the stranglehold Penny put him in. Penny could be facing up to 15 years in prison, should he be convicted.

Penny restrained Neely after the homeless man allegedly harassed and threatened other passengers on a New York City subway car. The chokehold Penny applied on Neely turned out to be fatal, which later led to Neely’s death being ruled a homicide.
Left-wing protesters instantly took up this cause to politicize it and compare it to the death of George Floyd.
Pushback
A counter-protest movement defending Penny’s actions arose in the form of a GiveSendGo fundraiser, which raised over $1.9 million to assist Penny with his legal fees.
In an appearance on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” Terrell declared the charges against Penny are politically and racially motivated. He also described Bragg as a “far-left” DA who offered Penny to leftist mobs like a “sacrificial lamb.”

He believes that Bragg is using “the classic ‘we want to play the race card’ situation.”
“You can’t ignore the fact that this Marine is white. You can’t ignore the fact that the victim is black,” Terrell stated.
He also called attention to how 27 other people died in the subway, but have received the same amount of attention from the corporate media.
“This is the ugliest of the race card being played. Also, this Marine is being the sacrificial lamb and I find it offensive,” Terrell proclaimed.
