The mainstream media has been caught in yet another lie. The Daily Caller News Foundation reports that BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate
A Closer Look at the Bogus Story
On Thursday, Buzzfeed published a piece which supposedly provided intel about Cohen’s testimony to prosecutors who are currently working for Mueller. The piece asserted that Trump, by Cohen’s admission, ordered the former attorney to mislead Congress about the attempted construction of a Trump Tower building in Moscow, Russia during the 2016 presidential election. Buzzfeed moreover cited anonymous individuals as the sources to substantiate their story.
Of course, it didn’t take long for Mueller’s office to come out and put the incorrect story to bed:
“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.”
Rudy Guiliani, President Trump’s current attorney, also maintains that his client never instructed Michael Cohen to issue a false testimony to Congress:
“Any suggestion – from any source – that the President counseled Michael Cohen to lie is categorically false.”
Responses to Mueller’s Denial
Since the discovery that Buzzfeed put out fake news, the publication has justifiably attracted some backlash from conservatives and other Americans who support President Trump. At this point, the left has made no secret of their hatred of the president.
However, many people find the intentional promotion and publication of dishonest stories to be problematic. Perhaps if various outlets focused on verifying their sources and making sure that they put out accurate information, they wouldn’t attract so much heat. Of course, at this point, it wouldn’t be wise for one to hold their breath when waiting for the media to get their stuff together and recover from Trump Derangement Syndrome.
