During a speech on economic issues in suburban Maryland, President Biden misspelled the number “eight” while discussing the average tax rate paid by billionaires in America.
Biden stated, “We have a thousand billionaires in America. You know the average tax rate they pay? Eight — E-I-G-H percent — 8%.”
The speech took place at a facility of the International Union of Operating Engineers in Accokeek, less than 20 miles from Washington, D.C. This gaffe came shortly after the president seemingly made an error when he said his father “never went” to college.
Biden’s Spelling Error Reminiscent of Past Gaffes
Biden’s recent spelling error during a speech, where he misspelled the number “eight,” is reminiscent of other notable political gaffes.
It reminds of former Vice President Dan Quayle incorrectly correcting a student’s accurate spelling of “potato” to “potatoe” in a 1992 spelling bee.
Joe Biden can't spell "eight."
E-I-G-H-T
I repeat… The President of the United States can't spell the number 8.

Biden’s speech primarily criticized proposed budget cuts by House Republicans, who unveiled legislation that would raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion. This move appears to be an opening offer to Biden in anticipation of upcoming negotiations.
Additionally, the president condemned Republicans affiliated with former President Trump’s Make America Great Again movement for suggesting cuts to the FBI’s budget over allegations of political bias.
Biden insinuated their motivation could be the FBI’s role in arresting some of the individuals involved in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
Let's get this straight: the FBI is hunting down every Trump-supporting grandparent who might have stepped into the Capitol rotunda on Jan 6, but they're willfully ignoring voluntary testimony from a WH stenographer who witnessed possible Biden crimes? https://t.co/udlwtPDdHr

Article From 2020 Contradicts Biden’s Claim
During his speech, Biden made a statement about his father never attending college, suggesting he could relate to the blue-collar crowd.
However, a 2020 article by the York Daily Record suggests that Joe Biden Sr. did attend Johns Hopkins University for one year, according to a 1941 newspaper announcement of his wedding to the future president’s mother.
The clipping states that “Mr. Biden is a graduate of St. Thomas High School and attended Johns Hopkins University. He is a salesman for the American Oil Company.”
The White House has not yet responded to requests for clarification regarding the accuracy of Biden’s statement about his father’s education.
