Since Joe Biden’s entry into the 2020 presidential election, he soared to the top of the polls. This occurred in spite of the heat he took from progressives within his party who unfavorably view him as a centrist.
However, it appears as though Biden is beginning to lose ground. The intense censure from progressives may actually be throwing a wrench in his ambitions to take on President Trump in 2020 after all.
At this time, Biden is still leading his opponents; however, as documented by Fox News, the former vice president maintains less of a lead than before.
Where Does Biden Stand as of Now?
At this point in time, a new poll representing Democrats in an Iowa caucus shows Biden leading with 24%. Bernie Sanders comes in second place at 16%, while Elizabeth Warren follows with 15%. Sanders and Warren are, by many standards, considered as the more progressive candidates in the running, candidates which groups like Justice Democrats are likelier to favor.
Pollster J. Ann Selzer provided some insight on what Americans can deduce from current polls.
“We’re starting to see the people who are planning to caucus start to solidify. There’s a lot more commitment than we normally see this early. And some of these candidates who’ve been under the radar start to surface and compete with Joe Biden.”
Will Biden Maintain His Lead?
Only time will tell whether or not Joe Biden manages to maintain his lead in the polls. It will likely become more challenging as various groups and candidates attack Biden with the desire to gain his place in the polls.
Another interesting factor to keep an eye for is whether or not Biden maintains his centrist and moderate leanings or regresses into radicalism for the sake of appeasing progressives within his party.
