As Democrats maintain their refusal to come to the table and work with President Trump on border security, it appears as though another government shutdown is only a matter of time; the White House provided statements about the matter earlier this morning, according to The Daily Caller News Foundation.
The Possibility of a Second Government Shutdown
Hogan Gidley, the White House deputy press secretary, shared the following remarks regarding the likelihood of another government shutdown:
“We’re on the verge of a government shutdown again because Democrats won’t come to the table to have a conversation about securing the country.”
The latest update from the White House deputy press secretary should not come as a shock to anyone who has been paying attention. After a 35-day government shutdown, President Trump signed a bill to reopen government for a three-week period.
The deadline for the aforementioned period is on February 15 and Democrats are nowhere closer to compromising with the president than they were before the initial government shutdown in 2018. As a matter of fact, since government has reopened, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has already declared that none of the prospective legislation to keep government functional will include funding for the border wall.
On the other hand, President Trump maintains that he will not sign or accept any legislation which does not provide funding for his promised physical barrier. Therefore, it appears as though both sides have done a 360 and arrived at the same impasse which promped the initial government shutdown.
