House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is taking heat for remarks which she made regarding concentration camps and issues at the Southern border. Earlier this week, the congresswoman took to her Instagram Livestream to proclaim that the United States government is “running concentration camps” at the Southern border.
These inane remarks triggered backlash from not only the right-wing, but also from certain Democrats, as documented by Fox News.
Putting Things into Context
Like many radical left-wingers, Ocasio-Cortez believes that enforcing immigration laws is wrong. If Democrats had their way, illegal immigrants would simply pour into the country unchecked, but thankfully, there are laws on the books and officials to uphold them. Nevertheless, AOC took it upon herself to compare the apprehension of illegal immigrants to concentration camps in Nazi Germany.
This didn’t set well with many Americans and the congresswoman has been surprisingly called out by certain Democrats. NBC news anchor Chuck Todd and Bill De Blasio each spoke out against Ocasio-Cortez and her aforementioned comparison.
During a segment of Meet the Press, Todd expressed his opposition to Ocasio-Cortez’s statements:
Likewise, De Blasio censured Ocasio-Cortez stating that there are no parallels between the situation at the border and the atrocity of the Holocaust.
“You cannot compare — what the Nazis did in concentration camps, unfortunately, is without any historical — I mean, it’s a horrible moment in history. There is no way to compare.”

The congresswoman has chosen to double down on her statements, in spite of bipartisan backlash. It’s most unfortunate that Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t understand why apprehending illegal immigrants is nothing like processing people into concentration camps, but it shouldn’t really come as a surprise.
Anyone who’s been paying attention in politics knows that Democrats don’t apologize, even when their statements are flagrantly incorrect. As such, Ocasio-Cortez dug her heels in with the following tweets amidst censure:
