AOC Rips Super Bowl Ads Featuring Christianity

Over the weekend, millions of Americans watched and tuned into the Super Bowl. This is a longtime sporting event that many fans have viewed for years on end. Some people even travel to see the Super Bowl.

Last week, Joe Biden made headlines for talking about how much of a fan his wife is of the Philadelphia Eagles.

In what some Americans deemed to be cringe-inducing, the president even alleged that he would be “sleeping alone,” were he not as enthusiastic about the sports game as first lady Jill Biden.

However, the Super Bowl was certainly not without controversy this year. Some Americans took issue with the performances of various entertainers.

Though in the case of House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, she did not care for Super Bowl ads with a Christian slant to them, as reported by Fox News.

A Closer Look at Complaints From AOC

He Gets Us, a Christian organization, spent tens of millions of dollars to have ads running during the mega sports event this past weekend. Reports indicate that the purpose of these ads was designed to make Christ appear more inclusive to all persons.

However, this is not how Ocasio-Cortez interpreted the content. She took to social media, tweeting out that Jesus wouldn’t be willing to dole out funds on ads that make “fascism” appear more amenable to the masses.

The congresswoman’s remarks were met with supporters agreeing with her and critics telling her to give it a rest. Some folks tweeted back at Ocasio-Cortez, claiming she was simply looking for something to be offended about.

Likewise, the New York Democrat was slammed by people who didn’t view the ads from He Gets Us as promoting fascism.

Deepening Culture Wars

Clashes between the general public over the entertainment at the Super Bowl, along with the ads displayed, only further indicate how deeply this country is wading into culture wars.

Moreover, people on opposite sides are becoming more estranged from each other and more likely to view their opponents as the enemy.

People who disagreed with Ocasio-Cortez’s take on the ads from He Gets Us also questioned whether or not she was offended by entertainment at the sporting event that some Americans deemed to be offensive and inappropriate.

Finally, the Democratic lawmaker also made headlines (and triggered backlash) for tweeting out criticism of business mogul Elon Musk. It’s worth noting that Ocasio-Cortez and Musk have previously traded blows with one another via social media.

What do you make of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez deeming Christian ads during the Super Bowl to be “fascist?” Do you believe this is a poor or accurate assessment? Please feel free to let us know your thoughts about this latest controversy in the section for comments.
