As tension at the United States Southern border continues to heat up, new developments are following a similar pattern.
According to The Daily Caller News Foundation, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents discovered a sex offender attempting to enter the country with other migrants; the agents also learned that the child predator had already faced deportation from the United States.
Everything You Need to Know about the Discovery
On January 11, 2019, 37-year-old Marcos Velasquez-Taperio was found along with a group of migrants who were attempting to enter America unlawfully. In 2009, Velasquez-Taperio faced conviction for aggravated indecent liberties against a minor. This conviction subsequently resulted in the 37-year-old serving a 32-month long jail sentence. Following his time in prison, Velasquez-Taperio was deported to his homeland of Guatemala.
Upon his discovery amongst migrants, the sex offender was taken into custody and will face prosecution for attempting to re-enter America after already being deported.
Gloria Chavez, the chief patrol agent of the California El Centro Sector, issued the following public statement regarding the situation with Marcos Velasquez-Taperio:
“I am proud of our Border Patrol agents for making this arrest. Deported sexual predators seeking to illegally enter the U.S. will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Timing
The timing of the sex offender’s attempt to illegally enter the country comes as the government approaches the 28-day milestone of the shutdown. The fact that Velasquez-Taperio was apprehended as he attempted to illegally enter the country just serves as a living testament to how badly America needs the border wall.
Unfortunately, the Democrats are still fighting tooth-and-nail against effective border security, which is precisely what enables sexual predators like Marcos Velasquez-Taperio.
