Sometimes, seemingly traumatic events can actually serve as eye-opening experiences and prove to be enlightening.
This is something which Pastor Shane Pruitt discovered after he and his family went through a significant health scare, as documented by The Blaze.
What Did Pastor Pruitt Learn?
The health issues which Pastor Pruitt faced largely served as the inspiration behind his new book, 9 Common Lies Christians Believe: And Why God’s Truth Is Infinitely Better. This is something which the pastor spoke about during his time on The Pure Flix Podcast.
In Pruitt’s own words:
“There’s these one-liners, these cliches that we … have adopted into the Christian community, baptized them and have made them a part of our vernacular; but they’re not necessarily biblically true, and they’re actually lies that will hold us back in our faith.”
As an example, Pruitt cited “follow your heart” as a common misconception amongst Christians. The pastor also stated that this conflicts with the true path which Christians should follow because Jesus should be the “center of [Christians’] universe” instead of self. According to Pruitt, Christians should not view themselves as in full control of their universe.
Another case comes in the common catchphrase, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” Pastor Pruitt maintains that this is another commonly-believed fallacy. In a further explanation, he asserted that God does sometimes give Christians more than they can handle which, in turn, strengthens their faith as believers.
“Yeah, sometimes it is more than we can handle, but that drives us to faith. By faith you take that pressure off your shoulders, you put it on the shoulders of the Lord.”
